Welcome to the New Year! We hope that it’s your best year yet and we wish you luck in achieving any and all of your goals!
That’s what welcoming the New Year is all about: deciding what you want to change in the year ahead compared to the year previous.
While we are sure that most people won’t have ‘drink more tea’ as their New Year’s resolution (just us!), loose leaf tea can actually help you achieve many of the more common aspirations.
Here’s some information on how you can utilise different types of loose leaf tea to make 2023 the best year possible!
What are the most common New Year’s resolutions?
The most common New Year’s resolutions all involve some form of self-improvement. We all want to set goals that we can achieve in the new year, or even just for the first month of the new year.
Whether we actually keep up with our goals for the whole year is another issue! But with our tips you can give yourself the best chance at achieving some of the most common New Year’s resolutions that we all have.
Maybe you want to take up an extreme sport, or maybe you want to read over 100 books in a year, or any other admirable goal! However, we will do our best to highlight some of the more common New Year’s resolutions that we have all encountered in our lives.
Give up drinking
Dry January has become a huge event in the 21st century. Many of us are becoming conscious of our alcohol intake for one reason or another and are deciding to give our bodies a perfectly timed break after the holiday festivities.
If you are choosing to go tee-total in January, then you may find yourself searching for a new drink to take its place. While your first instinct may be to reach for a fizzy drink, may we suggest one of our delicious loose-leaf tea blends instead?
Not only will you have more variety in choosing a flavour that you like, but our tea is healthier for you than soda and other carbonated beverages, too. Made with real, natural ingredients and super low in calories, loose leaf tea is a tasty drink that you can enjoy all day every day with many health benefits on top!
Get active or lose weight
Many of us find that we want to get a bit healthier and maybe even lose a pound or too – especially following December! The right loose leaf tea can help you do just that.
Scientifically, there are two components to losing weight: energy used and calories consumed. If you want to lose weight, then you need to be in a calorie deficit which means that your body is burning more calories than it is consuming.
Certain loose leaf teas are excellent at raising your metabolic rate and increasing your energy expenditure. Oolong tea is an excellent choice for this, and has many other health benefits too!
Combine increasing your step count, going to the gym, or otherwise becoming more active with regular drinking of a warm cup of oolong and you will be well on the way to your target weight!
Improve mental health
While many New Year’s resolutions involve our physical health, it is important not to overlook our mental health as well.
The January blues is a well-documented phenomenon that shows a recurring rise in the rate of depression during the month of January.
Listen, we aren’t going to say that tea can cure depression, or that you should substitute speaking to a professional with sipping on a mug of loose leaf tea. What we will say is that certain types of tea have been found to contain ingredients that lower our stress hormones and can improve our mood.
Green tea is capable of decreasing the level of cortisol (the hormone responsible for stress) in the body, and it is also high in folate which may be able to alleviate some feelings of depression.
So if you are feeling particularly blue this month, catching up with a friend over a cup of green tea certainly wouldn’t do any harm, and may help you through this tough period.
