What better way to celebrate World Vegan month than with a delicious cup of loose leaf tea?
As many blends typically contain nothing but dried herbs, fruits, and plants, most loose leaf teas are suitable for even the strictest of vegans.
One of the many questions we get asked is, “Is our tea vegan?”
Well, typically, loose leaf tea is made without animal products, which makes it a wonderful beverage to accompany a vegan lifestyle.
However, the best and safest way to make sure you’re drinking a vegan tea is always to check the ingredients first.
About World Vegan Month
World Vegan Month begins on November 1st and commemorates the anniversary of the founding of The Vegan Society in 1944 by Donald Watson and friends.
Watson defined the word ‘vegan’ and started modern veganism.
Shortly before he died at the age of 95 in 2005, Watson said: “It is not every day a movement is born which in its general application could revolutionise mankind.”
The event is now celebrated around the world as a time to recognise how far the vegan movement has come, while also highlighting how accessible and beneficial a vegan lifestyle is.
This year, after a difficult 18-months, World Vegan Day is being viewed as an opportunity to bring together the vegan community in supporting one another.
Three Teas to try for World Vegan Month
You don’t have to be vegan to enjoy the many flavours that loose leaf teas offer.
A good cup of tea can provide the perfect pick-me-up, giving us that extra energy we require, while also providing an ideal opportunity to escape the rigours of daily life for five minutes.
As well as that, a number of loose leaf teas boast a range of health benefits aimed at aiding bodies, minds and souls while also boosting immunity, focus and calm.
So here’s a look at just some of the options available and just what makes them an ideal choice for tea lovers of all tastes.
Turkish Apple
Packed full of dried apple pieces fortified with vitamin C, this fruit infusion is just as perfect in the Turkish heat as it is as a winter warmer.
The delicious pieces of sweet apple are air-dried to offer an infusion that is wonderfully tangy and crisp, yet delicately sweet and mellow – and what’s more, it’s totally caffeine free.
This really is a healthy and traditional, loose leaf tea, that makes a soothing and warm winter infusion, and is equally delicious taken as a cold brew in the summer.
Vanilla Rooibos
The earthy goodness of red rooibos, full of antioxidants and completely caffeine free, is infused with the sweet warmth of vanilla.
Gently hydrating and low in tannin, it has long been valued for its natural goodness and is pretty much perfect for a refreshing brew to chase away those winter blues.
With a sweet, yet malty, flavour Rooibos works without milk and can be enjoyed any time of the day or night as it doesn’t contain caffeine.
Peppermint
Peppermint tea is a great cuppa at any time of the day, as well as often being served after a meal, as it is a well-known digestive aid.
Native to the Mediterranean area, it’s an infusion made from peppermint leaves that is drunk as a hot tea and has an exquisitely high menthol content resulting in its intense scent and flavour.
Offering a deliciously minty-sweet taste with a cool and freshly-pure aroma, it can be enjoyed hot or as a cold brew tea and as it’s naturally caffeine-free, can be enjoyed as a pre-bedtime beverage.
